A Growth Mindset VS. a Fixed Mindset...
Someone with a growth mindset believes that our intelligence and abilities can be improved with effort and strategies. In contrast, those with a fixed mindset believe that no matter what effort and strategies they put in place, their intelligence and abilities will not improve.
Teaching kids to have a growth mindset just means teaching them that with effort and trying new strategies, they could increase their chances at being successful with whatever they are trying to succeed in.
How do we help our children develop a growth mindset?
#1 Teach them it's ok to make mistakes and to be wrong.
#2 Teach them not to be afraid to try out new ideas or strategies to solve a problem.
#3 Teach them to not give up and to keep trying to resolve a hard problem, even if it seems impossible.
#4 Teach them a positive mantra that will help them to stay positive during times of difficulty such as, "Accept yourself, love yourself and Keep Moving Forward," "Great things can happen if I continue to persevere," or something short such as, "Mistakes Help My Brain Grow."
Using the saying, "Mistakes Help My Brain Grow," not only takes away the fear of being wrong and validates the importance of making mistakes because of the effort required.
